Clarrisa Marie Ligon (Stage Manager) is a full-time student at Brooklyn College studyingboth Music Performance and Theater Production. She graduated from LaGuardiaHigh School knowing she wanted to continue in the performing arts. Currentlyshe is the Communication Coordinator at The CityKids Foundation, while alsoworking as a freelance makeup artist, stage manager, and performer for variousshows around the city. Michi Ilona Osato aka sister selva (Master of Assistance/Featured Performer/Odd Jobs) is a native NewYorker from the East Village. She hasstudied dance with Loco-Motion Dance Theater for Children from age four on,theater at the LaGuardia High School for Performing Arts and Music & Art,and then later history, language, and the African dance diaspora at OberlinCollege where she received her BA in 2008. She is a new member of Brown GirlsBurlesque and performs in her family clown show with her sister and father, LOL: The End. She dances wheneverpossible.
Miss AuroraBoobRealis a.k.a. DawN Crandell (Burlesque Advisor) is the co-founder of Brown Girls Burlesque. Sheis an interdisciplinary performing artist and educator who has workedextensively on an international basis. She received her B.A. from Sarah Lawrencewith a focus in performing arts. In 2007 she received her M.F.A. inInterdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College with a focus on 20th Century BlackRadical Artists and the intersections of dance, poetry and theater. As a soloand collaborating artist she has performed throughout New York City at suchvenues as Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Harvey Theater, New York TheaterWorkshop, Lincoln Center – Out of Doors, Central Park Summerstage, TheLegendary Blue Note, La Mama, Nuyorican Poets Café, Bowery Poetry Club, TheZipper Factory, The Slipper Room, Le Poussin Rouge, Joe's Pub, WOW Cafe, KumbleTheater, and Highline Ballroom. Internationally she has performed at ContactTheatre, greenroom, Z Arts Centre in Manchester, UK; The Albany and StraffordCircus in London, and Bristol Old Vic. DawN is also an accomplished teachingartist who has spent fourteen years in the field teaching dance, theater andpoetry to children and adults alike. In the realm of burlesque, she co-createdand co-taught the first Broad Squad Institute curriculum with ChicavaHoneyChild and has developed a burlesque meets fitness class called SexyU. Currently she has a solo show called Xenophobadelica, a Queer Contactcommission that fuses poetry, movement, storytelling, burlesque and audienceparticipation with her life long love of Prince; exploring the complex natureof individual identity, the constant struggle one goes through to try and fitin, and the ramifications of what happens when you find yourself standing out. Moises Belizario (Director) was born and raised in Brooklyn,New York City. For the last threedecades he has worked professionally as a writer, director and actor in film,television and theater. He is currentlythe Artistic Director of the nationally acclaimed CityKids Repertory Company,in New York City. He has directednumerous videos by the repertory company several of which have premiered at theHBO Screening Room. Belizario and Unahave worked together for many years on numerous projects including Una’s othersolo shows: Recess, JapJAP, and her,her sister and father’s show LOL: The End.
Una Aya Osato aka exHOTic other (Writer/Performer) was born and raised in the East Village, NewYork City. She works as a performer intheater and dance as well as an educator, where she is continually merging herart and politics. She began herperformance career at age seven, dancing with the world renowned José LimonDance Company, touring in the U.S. and Europe. As a youth, she was a repertory member of CityKids, where she appearedon network television. While completingher studies at LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts, she was awardedthe level one prize in theater by the U.S. Arts Recognition Talent Search andwas named a finalist for the Presidential Scholar in the Arts. Following this, she was invited toparticipate in the Sundance Theater Laboratory where she performed in JuliaCho's 99 Histories. Since graduating Wesleyan University, she hascreated critically acclaimed one-woman shows, Recess, JapJAP, and Keep ItMovin', and collaborative createda clown show with her family, LOL: The End, all of which she has performednationally and internationally at various theaters, classrooms, communityorganizations and college campuses. Recess, JapJAP and LOL: The Endhave won numerous awards including: "Best Female Solo Show" at theSan Francisco Fringe Festival, "Best of Fest" in Winnipeg Canada,"Volunteer Pick,” “Audience Choice,” “SOLD OUT” awards at the FRIGID NY,and was nominated by the NY Innovative Theater Awards for “Outstanding SoloPerformance.” In addition to touring herown work, Una also performed in Taylor Mac’s Obie Award winning show, The Lily’s Revenge, at the HERE ArtsCenter. Una's love for fully embodyingher politics in her art, has also led her to Brown Girls Burlesque,where she is company member and goes by the name exHOTicother.
