Since 2010, agroup of Canadians, led by comedic performer Paul Hutcheson, have beencrossing the border to entertain audiences at late-night cabaret shows as partof the FRIGID New York Festival presented by Horse Trade Theater Group. After shows in 2014, the show will have beenproduced over forty times and has been featured in Time Out NY, MSNBC and TheVillage Voice.
For the finalyear, the cabaret has assembled an array of talented Canadian performers tobring the house down. Canadian comedy award-winner Chris Wilson;character actor and part of the legendary sketch troupe “The Specials”, CJSawchyn; Just For Laughs and headlining comics Nathan McIntosh and RonJosol; drag beast extraordinaire Fay Slift; Fringe Theatre veteranand award winner Laura Ann Harris; and rock/pop icon Light Fires,who has collaborated with Sufjan Stevens, The Hidden Cameras and OwenPallet. And of course, the cabaret wouldnot be complete without the inclusion of comic Jillian Thomas (MTV Live,MTV Impact) and award-winning burlesque performer Sharon Nowlan, whohave been with Canuck Cabaret since its inception. <br>
Since 2010,the cabaret has made friends with talented Americans, and this year we havechosen favorites; avant-garde musicians The Swimming Pools; KillerKilly Dwyer (finalist, Andy Kaufman award); D’yan Forrest (79 year oldbisexual ukelele comic); character actor Gregory Levine; “The Junket”writer and star Mike Albo; Jami Smith (Advocate); comedicpowerhouse Tanya O’Debra; comedic musician Ben Lerman and manyothers that will be gracing the UNDER St. Marks stage.
