Audience Choice Award ~ Frigid NYC 2007
Best of the Toronto Fringe 2006/07

She's baaaack! Tracey Erin Smith, as the stripping rabbi Barbara Baumawitz, showcases her humour, comedic timing and commanding presence in this sequel to her 2007 Frigid Hit, The Burning Bush!. Equal parts hilarious, captivating and smart, Two for the Bush takes Barbara on a road trip where she encounters Jackie Mason, her Lil Kim-esque stripper friend, Jewish senior citizens, rabbis, a Matthew McConaughey-ish dirty southern handyman and many more typically offbeat characters.

Remarkably, Smith manages a deft balance of zaniness and introspection, serving up religion free of preachiness or snide satire. Her performance has been described as "a genuinely touching appreciation for spirituality that would manage to endear even the most jaded of cynics" (Plays on the Net). And be warned: the circumcision scene will leave you teary-eyed...from unending laughter.

THE CRITICS AND RABBI'S AGREE!
EYE WEEKLY REVIEW OF TWO IN THE BUSH!
Tracey Erin Smith, as the stripping rabbi Barbara Baumawitz, showcases her dark humour, comedic timing and commanding presence in this sequel to her Fringe hit from last year, The Burning Bush. The piece makes good use of the small space, and is equal parts hilarious, captivating and smart. Smith dives into character after character, including Jackie Mason, her Lil’ Kim–esque stripper friend, Jewish senior citizens, rabbis, her high-pitched best friend, a Matthew McConaughey–ish dirty southern handyman and more. Her circumcision scene saw audiences teary-eyed from unending laughter. A definite must-see.
Eye Weekly - Toronto, 2007

“Tracey Erin Smith’s solo show, The Burning Bush!, is a saucy, freewheeling good time that walks the line between tasteful and tasteless perfectly…a total crowd pleaser.  Theatergoers (and deep-pocketed commercial producers) should check it out while they still have the chance."
-NEW YORK THEATRE EXPERIENCE (March 2007)

"What a fantastic journey!! A powerful, transformative exploration of the many faces of God. Brilliantly funny and provocative, Tracey forces us to look at where we draw our lines of identity, and asks us to question the neat categories we use to define 'kosher' and 'not-kosher’. Touching on core issues of God, spirituality, femininity, and sexuality The Burning Bush! is an unforgettable story that liberates."
- Rabbi David A. Ingber (NYC, January 2006)

“Tracey Erin Smith is a consummate entertainer who combines Madonna music, pole-dancing and Star of David Go-Go boots to reveal that the fine line between the striptease and the religious experience is not only hilarious – it’s a revelation.”

WHAT AUDIENCES ARE SAYING:
“Gorgeous! Tracey Erin Smith is an inspiration! Why can’t all comedy be so truthful and deep?”

“A wonderfully clever, highly entertaining tour-de-force, THE BURNING BUSH! written and performed by super-talented, Tracey Erin Smith couched profound ‘spiritual’ messages in the framework of a fresh, funny, intelligent, ribald 60 minute performance/experience about a female rabbi whose journey to self came, not atop a mountain offering prayers to the Almighty, but in a strip club. Loved it! Loved it! Loved it! Now, let’s pray for the film!”

“This was fabulous. Just the right combination of funny, sexy and thought-provoking. Tracey Erin Smith manages to give each character a distinct voice and manner, even when flipping rapidly between them, and ironically for a story about God it was subtle and funny and not at all preachy. Loved the script, loved the performer, loved the gospel according to Madonna. Go see it!”

“A must see! This burning bush sizzles!! A powerful combo here, this gorgeous woman has an amazing soulful voice, is hilariously funny and soulfully provoking!”
