Subway Series is an experimental improvised play that explores the levels of connection between expression and individuality, exposing the strengths and weaknesses of communication and the imagination.

NewFormat Improvisation is New York's premier artist collective, producing work which reflects
society in order to engage, entertain and challenge its views and concepts.

The Cast and crew

JASON/JANUS SURRATT -He is of the youngest graduates of The Second City Conservatory in Chicago in 1999, and has been working in Improvisation for fifteen years. Jason has directed Hamlet: Revenge of a King at the Producer’s Club and for the 2006 Fringe Festival in NYC. He has directed multiple improvisation formats; most noted are 61 Dead Men, Lady Liberty, and Killar Improv, which were performed at the P.I.T and several other NYC venues. Jason developed NewFormat Improvisation in 2005, which has since grown to produce four to five original shows a year. Jason Holds a BFA from Syracuse University.

JEFF STEVENS - Jeff Stevens is a SAG and Actor’s Guild actor, having played minor roles in dozens of television shows and films, including The Black Donnely’s and Annapolis. Jeff will be starring in the upcoming indie film, Bamboo Shark, slated to come out early next year. One of the founding members of NFI, Jeff is currently directing his new show, “The Voice”.
DAN LEVY - A screenwriter, Dan Levy has been working non-stop in his pursuit of his dream. A BFA graduate of Syracuse University’s Film-Drama program, Dan’s senior film script was hailed as “one of the best student scripts I’ve ever read” by Owen Shapiro, the head of the Syracuse Film program and founder of the Syracuse International Film and Video Festival. As one of the founding members of NFI, Dan is currently writing and directing NFI’s new sketch show, “American Like Jesus”.
CHRIS MCCUE - NFI core member Chris McCue has been with the group for a year, and has performed full runs of Killar Improv, Improv Anonymous and Subway Series. Five years of street performance at the Great Lakes Medieval Faire in Ohio inform his two-fisted Improv sensibilities, as does his experience in making video art and performance videos. He earned a bachelor’s degree in film from Syracuse University and specialized in documentary production. During the day, he works for legendary documentary filmmaker, Albert Maysles.
MEGAN BERNARD - Megan Bernard is an actress, dancer, singer and writer. Megan studied theatre during high school at Educational Center for the Arts in New Haven, CT. She continued her studies at Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY where she received her B.A. in theatre. After graduating Megan attended an intensive acting program on the topic of Irish playwrights in Dublin, Ireland at the Gaiety School of Acting. Megan has been in various plays and short films in NYC. Her favorite is a short film, Hot Young Grandma, in which she had the lead role.
