Dating isn’t easy, but at least it can be funny. Meet a girl who keeps meeting the wrong guy, until she figures out that dating isn’t about perfecting the art of what doesn’t work... it’s about figuring out what does.

Dating isn’t easy and we constantly walk a fine line between acts that can be seen as really romantic or really creepy. ‘How Does...’ is a story about a girl who is coming to grips with a dating life that is unravelling. Why is she attracting these guys? Where is her self-esteem hiding? Is it true that the “good ones” are either taken or gay? Could it be her? Or maybe dating isn’t about perfecting the art of what doesn’t work... perhaps it’s about figuring out what does. “...this piece is done well, the script is intelligent and Neale Kimmel creates a character who warrants our sympathy, despite her bad choices.” |
Created in 1999 Green with Envy Productions is the brainchild of Kelly Aija Zemnickis, a Toronto-based writer and producer. From the time of its inception, Green with Envy has brought a new twist to Toronto’s sketch and improv community with shows such as Inside the Out-of-Work Actors Studio, Girls Night Out (a benefit to raise money for Gilda’s Club of Toronto) and Off Book.
As a playwright, How Does... is Kelly’s first play and she credits her astoundingly bad dating life for the abundance of material. Based on true stories, the play came to life after Kelly ran into a friend of a friend. He knew her name and asked if she had made soup for a guy named Carl in high school. The odd part? She never went to high school with this guy! Yet, he had heard that she made Carl soup when he was sick and was thus called ‘the soup girl’ behind her back. Pissed off and embarrassed, Kelly promptly headed home and started writing about what we do for love. How Does A Drug Deal Become A Decent 3rd Date? was first performed at the 2008 Minnesota Fringe Festival. It was also a selection for the 2008 Hamilton Fringe Festival.

Having survived the intense and potentially dangerous character study for this play, Jesse is grateful to be a part of Frigid NY. This marks his triumphant return to the New York stage since appearing in Franny & Zooey at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts fifteen long years ago. After two seasons playing Gavin on the Canadian television comedy Jeff Ltd. and several other recent film and TV roles, Jesse is excited to be back on stage. It started with the 2008 Minneapolis Fringe followed by the Hamilton Fringe and now NY. Who would have thought that one fateful Drug Deal would open so many doors? He would like to thank Kelly, Carmine, Danielle and Neale for making this all possible. Jesse looks forward to third dates with each and every one of you. |
![]() Neale Kimmel (“girl”) |
Neale is thrilled to be at Frigid and thrilled to be in New York! As a graduate of the BFA Acting Program at the University of Windsor, Neale has been busy waiting tables in her hometown of Toronto. When she is not spilling drinks on people, Neale enjoys furthering her acting technique in various classes and working on several independent films (‘Zombie Jesus!’). She also plays a mean 2nd base in her softball league. Neale would like to thank her wonderful family and friends for all of their love and support. And she would like to offer a special thank you to her very own Ex Boyfriend for inspiring this performance. |
